Cerebral Palsy Videos
Introduction to Cerebral Palsy Please wait until video loads... Cerebral palsy is a motor or muscle disorder that typically occurs before birth, although in a small number of instances it can occur during labor and delivery or after birth. The incidence during labor and delivery as well as after birth are considerably less than the number that occur before birth. It is important not to confuse cerebral palsy with developmental disorders which may accompany cerebral palsy, but are still very different. Cerebral palsy is a motor/muscle disorder that affects the body. It is a neurological disorder which does not change, progress or develop over time. Once a person has it, their condition will neither improve or deteriorate for the rest of their life. There are different types of cerebral palsy and each affects a different part of the body. These differences are determined by which part of the brain is affected. Developmental disorders are typically characterized by a child not meeting accepted milestones controlled by the cognitive parts of the brain such as reasoning and thinking. Indeed people who suffer from developmental disorders are considered mentally challenged or retarded. Statistically cerebral palsy occurs in two out of every thousand births. During the course of this series I will be describing some of the ways one can avoid contracting cerebral palsy during labor and delivery. More Videos about Cerebral Palsy
