Cerebral Palsy - Placental Pathology
Placental Pathology Examination of the placenta can also indicate a premature separation of the placenta from the uterine wall known as an abruption, or blood clots. This can also be helpful in determining how a baby was injured during labor and/or delivery. Of crucial importance is a gross examination of the placenta which will show signs clots. A gross examination can also show that the placenta was broken in certain parts, or that it had distinct lobes. Or it can be covered by stool passage of the baby. Thus we see that in many circumstances, either under the microscope of by gross examination, the placenta can contribute to our knowledge and help us determine if and when an injury was caused to the baby during labor and delivery.
